Red velvet splendour

I am a bit of a cooking show fan and of late have really gotten hooked on Ace of cakes (check it out on foxtel if you've not heard of it, these guys turn a slab of cake into some amazing things).

I digress, whilst watching these shows I kept hearing them mention this cake called red velvet, the only thing I knew about it was that it was red, very red. So I consulted my trusty recipe source, aka Google and came across this recipe.

Even though it had a list of ingredients a mile long, I decided to give it a go, minus quite a bit of the colouring it was calling for. I'm so glad I did the cakes turned out fantastic. The red in the centre when you cut it was striking. I took one of the cakes to work, less cake on my hips that way, and the look on everyones face when the cake was cut into was priceless. They all seemes to love it too. Most importantly my little food critics loved it to bits.
Especially the best job of all, licking the bowl, red cake mixture and all.
